Blog post #49 - CCR question 1 and 2 script
CCR question 1:
Commentary
Hi, my name is aidan and today i am going to be answering question one of my CCR
Question one asks, How do your products use or challenge conventions and how do they represent social groups or issues
To start, my film is under the genre of a drama comedy, that represents a social group of young teenage boys who have an inmature sense of humor and pull pranks on their friends
A social group is a group of characters who share similar characteristics such as social class or gender.
"the film kind of reminds me of me and my friends because we usually mess with each other and pull pranks just like the one in the film"
Many people would agree that the prank being pulled in my film is something that would be happening with teenagers just like in real life and represents how young teenage boys act.
What is genre hybridity- genre hybridity is used to mix and match elements to create something unique and multifaceted
For the drama part of my film, i used things such as setting , closeup-shots, and color to represent something more tense. The setting was in a house at night to make the scene more spooky and suspenseful. Shots i used such as closeups make the audience view the characters differently and the closeup was used to make them portray tension. The characters wore colors such as black to represent the "evil" side of the story, white to represent innocence, and grey to put the focus on the other characters. I also used eerie and dark music in the beginning to set a tense tone.
For the comedy side of my film i used things such as an over the shoulder shot and a long shot. The over the shoulder shot showed the POV of the character which showed what his friends intentions really were. The long shot used shows how good of friends the teenagers are. I also used an upbeat and popular song to create a happy feeling.
The genre hybridity of drama and comedy in my film, creates a smooth mix of tension and laughter.
This goes against normal conventions of how in comedy movies it is apparent that it is a comedy at the very beginning of the film, but in my film, it starts off tense and suspenseful.
"The film made me feel suprised that it was going to be a comedy"
When my film comes to representing issues, it shows what it is like to be pranked all the time and feel as if someone has taken something too far. After Noah realizes he got pranked, he gets frustrated that he did all that ato help his friends just for it to turn out to be a silly prank
" I would feel violated and annoyed if my friends pulled something like that on me because i would not trust them the next time they said something bad was happening to them
In conclusion, my film clearly represents how it challenges conventions through genre hybridity and a very niche style of movie. It also represents the humor of young teenage boys.
CCR question 2:
podcast
Hi my name is aidan pulley and in this video i will be answering question 2 off my CCR.
Question 2 of my CCR asks How does your product engage with audiences and how would they be distributed as a real media text.
By engaging with the audience, there will be an emotional connection built with the film, improves the narritive, and overall keeps the audience interested.
How do filmmakers engage with audiences? Well this can be done through a large mix of elements.
The dark and suspenseful music made the beginning more tense and kept the audience on their toes for what was about to happen. It made the opening scene more suspenseful.
The opening scene also being in the dark made the scene feel eerie and spooky.
The narrative where Noah's friends say they are in trouble and need help, also keeps the audience on their toes. It makes them wonder what really happened with his friends and what Noah is going to do with his gun. After the problem of Noah's friends being in trouble is resolved, the friends are happy and laughing together. Even though there is not supposed to be an apparent ending in the two first minutes of the film, Noah forgiving the friends and laughing with them sets the rest of the film up for the friends being partners in crime with each other.
The characters being younger teens makes the audience wonder "why does this teen have a gun," or "how is this teen so serious" because most teens would not be able to carry a gun and most of them would not go out to kill someone for their friend.
When Noah speeds off in the truck, it tells the audience how serious and how much Noah would do for his friend. It shows the relationship between Noah and his friends and shows how much he cares for his friends just how the audience may have a connection with someone where they would do anything to help their loved ones.
The audience also may relate to being home alone at night and feeling scared or worried. The text Noahgot made him feel frightened.
I asked 2 males and 2 females and ask them how they felt they could connect or feel related to the product and this is what they said.
"it made me feel as if i were home alone and something scary happened."
