Blog post #35 - representation

Representation is the way the audience portrays the characters. It can be used to create a semiotic analysis on what the author is trying to put out. It shapes the audiences understanding of many things including social class, ethnicity, body image, gender, sexuality, disability, etc...

For example, in the movie Back In Action(2025) the children are stereotyped as not having a good relationship with their parents. The daughter in the movie neglects her mother and stays to herself. The audience understands that teenagers are usually stereotyped as having a mixed relationship with their parents and it represents that group of teens.

In my film, the teenage boys, stereotyped as "young and dumb." This representation of the boys will help improve the narritive of them pulling a prank on one of their friends. The audience would understand that the teenagers are represented that way so the are more likely to act that way.
