Blog post #34 - contribution to performance to mise-en-scene

The proximity and how close the characters are to each other can tell the audience the characters motives.

For example, if a character was sitting close to another character, it would show that they are comfortable with each other. But if the characters were sitting further away from each other with a weird look on their face, the audience would imply that they either do not like each other or are uncomfortable.

In this example, the two are enjoying each other company and it is obvious that they like each other. The man has a smile on his face and they are close in proximity to each other
In this example, the two characters are arguing and far away from ach other. They are both mad and it is obvious they do not like each other.

Facial expressions can also be used to show how people feel about each other.

In my film, Noah will be further away from his friends at first to show that he is uncomfortable in the situation and does not know what to do. After he realizes it was a prank, he will hug his friends and it will be clear that he is relived and that he loves his friends.
